How We Serve

The Crossing Outreach Urban Mission Campus meets people where they are and guides them to meet their potential.

Programs focus on providing housing and changed lives for men reentering the community from incarceration, distributing fresh food rescued from the local grocery stores and Second Harvest Food Bank, and operating a Thrift Store to provide clothing items to the homeless and revenue to support the Nutrition Center.

The Nutrition Center

615 South 7th 816-396-8113

The Urban Mission Campus is located in the largest food desert in St. Joseph. The Nutrition Center provides much needed food to more than 22,000 families annually. As a food rescue program, the center is dependent fully on donations from local grocery stores, community members and is operated by volunteers.

The Re-Entry Program 611 South 7th

Each month 40 prisoners released from prison in St. Joseph stay in the community, either for legal reasons or because it was their home before prison. Many who stay, have only the clothes on their back and nowhere to go. The Crossing is partnering to ensure re-entry includes structure, stable shelter and job-readiness training.

The Thrift Store

702 Messanie 816-396-8114

The mission of the Good Samaritan Thrift Store is to provide quality products while supporting the local homeless population and the ones that need a hand up. We take pride in our organized and clean store, making it easy for customers to find great deals. We run regular promotions, including $5 bag clothing sales every Saturday.
